About Catnap

Catnap is a locally running Mac menu-bar break reminder. This policy is effective September 3, 2026.

Data we do not collect

Catnap does not create accounts or collect, upload, sell, or share your timer data, recovery feedback, or personal identity information. The app includes no third-party advertising, analytics, or crash-tracking SDKs and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).

Data processed on your Mac

Catnap stores duration settings, completed breaks, screen-use time, longest continuous focus duration, snooze counts, and selected app rules on the current device. It reads system idle, lock, display-sleep, and app state needed by your rules to decide whether time should count. The break timer does not record keystrokes, mouse-operation content, screen content, file content, browsing history, or text inside apps.

Screenshots and permissions

Only when you actively use the screenshot tool and grant macOS Screen Recording permission does Catnap read screen images for local capture, annotation, copying, and saving. Screenshots are not uploaded to Catnap or advertising services. They are written to the clipboard or your selected file location only when you choose to copy or save. You can revoke Screen Recording permission in macOS System Settings.

Ads in the menu-bar panel

A clearly labeled advertising area can appear at the bottom of the home panel. Opening the panel makes an HTTPS request for ad content. App version, interface language, placement, and the approximate country or region supplied by Cloudflare for that request may select compatible, relevant content. Region and language are not stored in ad event records. Requests contain no timer or recovery data. Precise location, cross-app tracking, and cross-site tracking are not used.

Impressions and reports

An impression is sent to a first-party endpoint after at least 50% of the ad is visible for one continuous second, at most once per ad per panel opening. The record contains only the campaign ID and time, not advertising or device identifiers, timer, recovery, or screen-use data. The ad’s More menu offers an explanation and reporting. Reports contain only the campaign ID, a predefined reason, and submission time. Impression and report events are kept for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted. Contact the developer below to request earlier deletion of relevant statistics.

Ad links

First-party Catnap content is shown by default. If a partner advertises, their page receives an ordinary web request only when you choose to click, which may include routine network information such as an IP address. Catnap does not send break records, screen-use time, or other local usage data to the ad source.

Notifications

With your authorization, Catnap can send local break notifications in Immersive mode or when it detects a foreground full-screen app. You can turn off this permission in System Settings.

Retention and deletion

Settings and recovery records stay on your device. Clear the statistics in Catnap’s Recovery settings to delete recovery records. Uninstalling the app stops further processing. You manage saved screenshot files in your chosen locations.

This website

Website timers, modes, and break scenes are demonstrations. They do not read or measure your actual computer usage. The website stores only a language preference in your browser and includes no ad or analytics SDK. Hosting services process ordinary network-request information necessary to deliver the site; the app’s local-data policy does not mean this website makes no network requests.

Why did the timer pause?

Idle, locked, sleeping, or excluded-app time does not count toward work time. Meeting mode pauses timing and reminders too.

Can I avoid the full-screen reminder?

Use Immersive mode for local notifications, or Meeting mode to pause reminders. A detected foreground full-screen app also receives a notification instead of a full-screen break.

How do I delete my recovery records?

Open Catnap Settings, choose Recovery, and clear the statistics. Screenshot files you chose to save can be deleted from their saved location.
